How to Burglar Proof Your Windows

Never has it been more important to be aware of the newest tactics that thieves and burglars employ to break inside a house.
However, one thing hasn’t changed: burglars will target the weakest points of entry in your house to get inside it.
If you’ve invested in highly durable doors and expensive locks, as well as additional measures like barrel bolts and latches, the weakest point of entry in your house could only be one thing: your windows.

Read on to find out what types of windows are the most durable and burglar-resistant and how to secure your windows at affordable prices.

Reinforced Glass

If you’ve never heard of the term reinforced glass, now would be the perfect time to know more about it. Reinforced glass comes with extra protection than typical glass, but is usually pricier compared to “regular” glass.

The most common type of reinforced glass is tempered glass. Tempered glass is made by heating glass to its melting point and then quickly cooling it.
This type of glass is much harder to break and is more durable, but when already broken it shatters into fine glass beads, not large shards of glass.
Think first before considering converting all your windows into tempered glass.

Another common type of reinforced glass is the laminated or safety glass, which adds an extra coating or “film” to your glass. The laminated glass works by sandwiching a sheet of vinyl between two regular sheets of glass. Laminated glass requires repeated strikes of force on a same spot on the glass, which would require an alarming amount of noise before it can be broken. This would make it easier for you to catch a thief or burglar red-handed. When the glass does manage to break, the sheet of vinyl will hold your glass together, and it will create spiderweb-like fissures or cracks on the glass (much like window shields on cars). What’s good about this is that it will not break into large shards that will leave wide, open spaces for your burglar to get through.
